Kwamafunchi Women Take Lead in Tree Seedling Watering at the Community Nursery

On a bright morning in Kwamafunchi Village, Kondoa, the spirit of environmental stewardship came alive as women from the community gathered at the village tree nursery to participate in watering young seedlings. The activity is part of the Greening Africa Three (GA3) Project, a transformative initiative that is restoring landscapes, empowering communities, and inspiring sustainable development.

The GA3 project, officially launched on October 16, 2023, is being overseen by Prosper for Greening Community Base from Tanzania, in collaboration with the Pachamama Raymi organization from Peru. Its primary focus is to engage communities in reforestation and climate resilience activities, while also strengthening local ownership of environmental conservation.

At the heart of this initiative are the women of Kwamafunchi. Their hands-on participation in nursery care — watering, nurturing, and monitoring the seedlings — reflects the vital role women play in driving community-based environmental change. The activity not only ensures the survival of thousands of seedlings but also symbolizes the growing commitment of local people to restoring the green cover of Kondoa.

“These seedlings are our future forests, our children’s shade, and our source of hope against climate change,” shared one participant during the activity.

The nursery at Kwamafunchi is expected to produce thousands of tree seedlings that will be transplanted into farms, schools, and degraded lands around Kondoa. By involving women and other community members, Prosper for Greening Community Base is ensuring that the project does more than plant trees—it plants resilience, unity, and a shared vision of a greener Africa.

The GA3 Project demonstrates that when local communities are empowered, global partnerships can create lasting environmental impact. With the leadership of Prosper for Greening Community Base and the support of Pachamama Raymi, the work in Kwamafunchi stands as an inspiring model for reforestation and community-driven climate action.
